What I Packed in my Hospital Bag
Hi there!
I thought I would do a bit of a list on what I packed for myself and for Sophie for our hospital bags.
There are many, many lists of what people pack already out there. I’m also going to add some things I wish I had taken and some bits that I just didn’t bother with.
I think I packed and re-packed the bags so many times and I changed which bags I was taking about 3 times. In the end I just ended up taking my suitcase and a bag for Sophie.
For reference, I went in to be induced so I wasn’t sure how long I would be in hospital for. I was in for a total of 6 nights, 5 nights before Sophie was born and a night once Sophie was born – nearly 2 nights.
What I packed for myself:
Clothes – these were mainly baggy comfy tops and joggers
Pjs
Towels so I could have a shower
Breast Pads – which I didn’t end up using
Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, shampoo, shower gel) I found the travel minis perfect as they took up less room.
Lip balm and face wipes – didn't use
Phone charger
iPad, headphones & charger were great for when Leonard had to leave so I could put something on to watch.
Maternity pads & peri bottle
Snacks and drinks which I didn’t touch
Snacks and drinks which I didn’t touch
Fan – again I didn’t use
A carrier bag to put my dirty clothes in, which was also great as Leonard could then take these home so we had less around us as the days went on and he could also bring me fresh clothes in too.
I wish I had taken a pillow because those hospital pillows were so flat.
What I packed for Sophie:
Sleepsuits x2 in first size – we needed more of this size
Sleepsuits x4 in 0-3 months which were too big
Vests x4 0-3 months which were also too big
Scratch mits which weren’t used as we didn't realise they were already in the sleepsuits
Full pack of nappies
Baby wipes x2 packs
Blanket
Teddy
Muslin cloths x3 & 3 bibs – didn’t use either
Nappy bags
Talc – didn't use
Nappy cream – didn't use
Cotton wool pads – didn't use
A thicker/fluffy pram/snowsuit - this was packed as Sophie was born mid-November but it wasn’t used as it was straight into the car which would have been too thick for travelling in.
Hat
Car seat – which was already in the car and left there until it was needed
Red book – this is something that is normally given to you once baby is born, but because I live in one area and birthed in a different area, even though its about 30 minutes up the road and closer to us, we may not have been given one from the hospital so our health visitor gave us one.
Pregnancy notes
Instant formula and bottles which we didn’t use until we got home.
Although we didn’t use some of the things we took, I’m still glad that I had packed them. I would much rather take them and not use or need them over needing them and them being at home.
Is there anything that I didn’t take that you did?
What are you planning to take?
