A Day Visiting Family

Hi there!

The other weekend we went to visit some of Leonard's family. Follow us along for the journey...

Getting ready to go

We planned to get up at 7am, but we didn’t. We got up slightly later, at 7:30am. Leonard and I got up and ready. Whilst I was still getting ready, Leonard went and started to get Sophie up and dressed for the day. Sophie was having her breakfast while we were getting ours ready, making ourselves a coffee and getting some bits done in the kitchen, like emptying the dishwasher.

Once we ate and had our coffee, we got Sophie ready to go. Packed her toys, checked her changing bag, dismantled the highchair so we could take it with us.

The drive

We finally were ready to go. Sophie was in the car. We then had a 2 hour drive to the first family we were visiting. We didn’t get too far away before Sophie fell asleep. I love it when we can get a nap in like this as it means that she will be less cranky and more likely to nap again on the way home. We stopped at the services about half way so we could grab ourselves a coffee. I nipped in and picked the place with the shortest queue, which was McDonalds. I got back to the car to discover than Sophie had woken from her nap. We continued on our way. Some point between the services and Leonard's Aunts house, Sophie thought it would be a great idea to pour her water all over herself in the car seat.

First Stop

Leonards Aunt made Sophie some lunch as well as us. Sophie had some pasta as it was quicker for her so she could eat. Then we got her changed out of her wet clothes. We had a nice talk and a walk around the local area. We then got packed up and back in the car to head towards the second stop.

Second Stop

When we got to the second stop, to visit Leonard’s grandparents, we were made aware that we had left Sophies teddy and doll behind. Also, on the way over, Sophie decided she wanted to get herself wet again by tipping her water out of her water bottle again. As soon as we got inside, we had to change Sophie again. Thankfully I had an extra two outfits with us. But, this now meant that we had no more spare clothes for her. We didn’t end up staying too long here and before we knew it, we were heading to meet Leonard’s Aunt to collect Sophies toys that had been left behind.

Quick Dinner for Sophie

I quickly nipped into Tesco after we had collected Sophie’s toys. In there was a Costa, not one of the express ones, an actual Costa, I picked up a coffee for myself and Leonard for the journey home and I picked Sophie up a toastie for her dinner, this was just something that was accessible for us as getting Sophie back in the car if we got her out would be a huge fight. Sophie ate this in the car before we set off to head home.

Home bound

We started to head back home, coffees to keep us going and a happy Sophie. Thankfully, we didn’t get held up on the way to or from visiting family. That made a nice change. We thought Sophie would have had another nap on the way home, making bedtime not just a late one for her, but also one after two longish naps. But she didn’t nap and stayed awake the entire journey home.

Home

Once we did get home, we let Sophie have a little time to play. She wasn’t overly bothered about playing too much though and was showing that she was tired and just ready for bed. So, we followed her lead and got her ready for bed shortly after getting home.

It was nice to go and visit Leonard’s family, as it always is. How does your day look when you go and visit family that aren’t nearby?
