Work Day Morning Routine

Hi there!

We have two morning routines on the days that I’m at work at Sophie is in nursery. These are alternated every other week, due to Leonard being on his early shift or late shifts.

But whichever shift that Leonard is on, I do like to do some little things just to keep things going. Once I am out of bed, I will make the bed, even if its just my side of the bed as soon as I'm out of it - mainly so I don't "fall" back into it. I also like to try and fold up any dry clothes from the airier in the kitchen, empty the washing machine so those clothes can start to dry and put on another load of washing, while I'm waiting for my coffee to pour and the kettle to boil. Obviously, this takes me longer than the kettle boiling, but I like to try and keep on top of the washing. If I do have some extra time, I'll try and get the dishwasher unloaded, but this doesn't always happen.

But for Sophie, it is one of the two below...

When Leonard is on his early shifts, he normally starts work at 5am. So I get Sophie up at around 6:30am but normally ends up being more like 6:30-6:40am. This is normally after I have gotten myself up and ready for the day, made my coffee, got mine and Sophie’s water bottles ready, my breakfast and lunch in my bag and moved both Sophie nursery bag and my work bag next to the door. When I go into Sophie, she is normally awake or starting to stir. Wednesdays are the days when she tends to roll over and try and go back to sleep. I grab the clothes that I set out at the weekend for her, as well as wipes and a nappy. I get her out of he cot, have a nice little cuddle and get her dressed for the day. Then it’s downstairs, a quick morning to Ginge, our cat, then through to pick up my coffee and Sophie’s water bottle. Sophie likes to then carry her water bottle herself from the kitchen and tends to be more interested in her shoes than her water by the time we get to the door. Shoes go on and into the car we go. We tend to get out of the house by 7am.

On the weeks that Leonard is on his late shift, he will get Sophie up, around the same time. Leonard will then get her dressed as I’m getting myself ready for the day. I then come downstairs, just before Leonard and Sophie, and start on getting my work bag ready and getting coffees made and water bottles filled up. Leonard will have cuddles and watch a few minutes of cartoons with Sophie while I get this stuff together. Leonard will then get Sophie into the car and we head off to nursery.

Sophie likes to have her water bottle with her in the car. Sometimes she'll play with it more than drink any of it though. I do have the water bottle off her before she leaves the car as she has one labelled with her name on it at nursery.

Both types of routines are pretty much the same, it just varies on if it is Leonard or myself getting Sophie up and ready for nursery. I do find that it is less of a rush around when Leonard is at home in the morning, but that is because he is a massive help in getting Sophie ready.

Next week, I will be covering what our evening work day routine looks like.

What does your work day morning routine look like?
