Nap Time Wins
Hi there!
This post is going to be about what tasks I’m able to complete while Sophie is having a nap, for days that we are at home.
Often, this isn’t much as I also want some time to sit and relax so I can recharge a little before nap time ends.
Once I have Sophie down in her cot, I come back downstairs and tidy her toys away, unless we’re going to see grandparents, then I’ll pack some toys into a bag to take with us so not all of the, are put away. It’s amazing how quickly toys and books end up spread all over the living room, including under furniture. And I clean up her lunch, the bits from her highchair and any that made it onto the floor.
I try and do the rest of it as quick as I can, which is… folding the clean, dry clothes up and putting them in the basket ready to go back upstairs, empty the washing machine and reloading it. I try and sort out the dishwasher, that may be to just load up the bits that haven’t been put in yet, or completely empty it and reload it and putting it on if needed. By the time all of this is done, it can already have taken me anywhere between 30-60 minutes. Wow! Time just flies by! If we are going out after she’s woken from her nap, I’ll make sure that her changing bag is ready for when we go.
While I’m sorting these bits out, I do have either some music, a podcast or an audiobook playing away.
I then finish up by quickly wiping around the sides in the kitchen before making myself a coffee and some lunch. Usually some toast.
This gives me around 30-60 minutes to be able to eat, relax and watch some TV before Sophie wakes up or it’s time to wake her up.
It may not sound like a lot gets done in this 2 hour nap time, but for me, it’s enough to help me to keep on top of the things that can very quickly pile up.
If Sophie wakes, or I go up to wake Sophie up, I take the washing basket up with me and separate the clothing out. Leonard puts his own away later on when he’s home. I will either put my clothes away while I’m here or later on when Sophie has gone to bed for the night. I take Sophie’s clothes in with me and put them away while she’s still in her cot. This way, I don’t have a little one trying to help by pulling the clothes out that she can reach.
As I said earlier in the post, it’s not a lot of tasks that I do get completed, but I try and give myself a little bit of time to recharge, ready for an afternoon of feeding, playing and reading. Some days, none of the above gets done and I’ll just sit, have lunch, a coffee and watch some stuff on TV. It really just depends on how I feel on the day, but this is what I’m able to complete most days when we’re at home.
You’ve got to look after yourself to be able to look after those around you.
What are your nap time wins?
